I want to share with you my interview with Sir Terence Conran which took place last week and was tremendously inspiring — Sir Terence was in New York for the launch of his new book, The Eco House Book, which focuses on his biggest concern: good design for the planet.

This Sunday, November 8th, we're hosting our sixth annual walk of the island. Unlike the previous five years, our walk this year is going to walk that bit of Long Island known as Brooklyn, as we'll start at Coney Island and walk all the way to our regular finishing point, Battery Park (ah, the Brooklyn Bridge is going to be marvelous)...
After many months of hard work, we welcome all of you to check out a new feature: Marketplace. Marketplace replaces our shopping guide and is our huge new resource for all of our readers who are in shopping mode.
Built to connect our readers directly to businesses that can help them make their homes more beautiful, organized and healthy, it will soon open up to businesses directly. We'll be inviting business owners to become full fledged members of our community by claiming or adding their shop, and allow them to build their own storefront pages with information, sales and pictures that will help them promote and stay in touch with our editors and readers. Take a look, use it and give us feedback!

My apologies! I'm sliding in late to homebase today, but it's not because of my Cure. My weekend was super productive, and I finished fixing all of the items in our home that were on my list. The problem was work. We've been working for over a year on a concept called Marketplace that allows readers to search our database of stores quickly and easily, and it's actually perfect for this week, which is all about Retail Therapy. It just launched this hour. You can see it here: Marketplace.

The world is full of millions of dining chair designs, so my approach is always to ignore the masses and look for classics that stand the test of time. I find that this approach either leads me to cheap classic chairs or really expensive classic chairs — rarely is there anything in the middle. Currently we have chairs from Cherner and Thonet, as well as a gaggle of vintage French chairs. I've always wanted a Prouve Standard chair, and I've always wanted a Superleggera Chair. One day. One day.

I am proud to say that while I have cut down on my swollen book collection, gotten rid of my CD's (they've all been ripped and the CD's sold off), and given a lot of old clothes away, I love collecting wine bottles (full). It's not that I INVEST in wine or anything as snooty as that, but I really like (insert guilty smile here) having racks of them so that we don't have to run out to the store every week and can have that feeling of ABUNDANCE in our home.

As I sit here tonight composing my thoughts on the Landing Strip section - and getting ready to take some photographs of my own landing strip - I read over what I wrote during Week 2 last spring and was impressed enough to think that I might be hard to top. So, while I take the pics, I want you to have a chance to read it...
Product: Knoll Generation Chair
Designer: Formway Design
Price: Starts at $777
Rating: Recommend*
Sara Kate and I have been sitting in the new Generation Chair for the past month, and it's a very comfortable sit, so comfortable, in fact, that I would recommend it for people looking for comfort above all else. It is noticeably less "tasky" than many other chairs, particularly the Embody Chair by Herman Miller (reviewed last year), and it excels in being attractive, comfortable and particularly good for conference or home environments where you don't want too high of a back or something that looks like a fighter-jet gaming seat.

I love doing the Cure. Twice a year I have this great excuse to upend everything, move everything around, buy a few new things and feel the energy come washing back into our home. This weekend Sara Kate started in on our kitchen and I totally lost focus and worked on the bedroom, living room AND bathroom. However, our apartment's so small they're all really connected to one another... Oh, but before I go on, here's a little survey to see who we've got out there. This will tell you a lot about how easy it is for you to get rid of stuff, or how hard it is for you to get into nesting....
September Guest: Rachel Ashwell of Shabby Chic
AT Offline: The NY Design Meetup
Attendance: 117
Today I wanted to take the time to highlight a really fascinating evening that I spent with Rachel Ashwell of Shabby Chic last Wednesday. In what is becoming a bigger and bigger forum for Apartment Therapy, my monthly Design Meetups are allowing me and the growing group of design enthusiasts and designers to get up close and personal with those who are really driving the creative side of the business.
I saw these exceptional concrete floors at the Clic Bookstore & Gallery last week and took pics to show you. These have been done beautifully in two really different styles. If you are ever considering doing a concrete floor in your home, I would refer to these pics and the company that did them.
